ALERT # 1 BLM Withholds Water From Horses |
The BLM has told the public that wild horses and burros are starving and dying of dehydration out on the range, and they use this misinformation to justify their removal and killing. In truth numerous America's wild horses have died because the BLM has blocked their access to water on public lands. HELP STOP THE KILLING! |
|
ALERT #2 WILD HORSES AND BURROS ACT
|
The BLM claims to care and protect our wild horses and burros on the range and in captivity, by touting the laws which are supposed to keep them safe from cruelty, harassment and death. In truth America's horses and burros need protection from the BLM. The mislabeling and eradication of wild horses and burros on America’s public rangelands is a clear demonstration of BLM's support for the competing economic value of commercial livestock and the BLM's defiance of their mandate to protect wild horses and burros. |

ALERT # 6: Wild Horses ARE NATIVE to North America |
This alert refutes the BLM myth that wild horses are purportedly not native to North America; The Bureau of land Management (BLM) and other commercial livestock interests don’t want people to know that the genus EQUUS, the HORSE is a NATIVE American species and that this species is EXCLUSIVELY NATIVE to the American continent. Many people don’t even realize that the genus EQUUS, today’s horses and burros are GENETICALLY THE SAME as those that lived in the U.S. before their so-called extinction. |

ALERT # 7: The Removal of Wild Horses and Burros from the Wild |

Dec 18, 2017, The Senate supports protection for America's horses and burros, however, the House has been unsupportive. Until this type of division can be resolved and a meeting of the minds for the good of humanity can move forward, the future of our horses, our people and our land will remain in jeopardy.
We ask the people of America our leaders to stand strong with the horses and protect them. We cannot allow the dangerous and violent expulsion of America’s horses and burros from our lands.
Nov 20, 2017 UPDATE on FY 2018 Interior Appropriations Bill: The SENATE has voted in favor of its bill to maintain existing protections for wild horses and burros (unlike the House version). The final vote which will determine the result will take place through a Conference Committee consisting of members from both the House and the Senate - the meeting has yet to be scheduled.
Wild For Life Foundation and Saving America’s Horses commends the Senate Appropriations Committee for voting in support of PROTECTING America’s wild horses and burros from killing by the Bureau of Land Management. although it's not over, this is a HUGE WIN for America's horses and burros.
45000 WILD HORSES:
On Sept 9, 2016 the BLM Advisory Board voted to recommend EXTERMINATING 46,000 innocent wild American horses and burros who have been brutally rounded up and are currently held wrongly under encampment.
In May of 2017 the United States, Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) released their 2018 “BUDGET JUSTIFICATIONS” with a call for approval of proposed provisions that if passed would strip protections and effectively allow the BLM to shoot and kill wild horses and burros and sell wild horses and burros for slaughter.
In July 2017, the HOUSE Appropriations Committee voted to adopt an amendment to its version of the Interior Appropriations bill that removed protective language for wild horses. If a bill is signed into law without protective language the door would be open to the mass killing of wild horses and burros, beginning with 46,000 wild horses and burros currently held in government corrals and pastures.
On July 20, 2017 – The SENATE Appropriations Committee approved the Udall-Graham Amendment, introduced by Sens. Tom Udall (D-NM) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) which includes defunding language to prohibit U.S. Department of Agriculture from hiring horse meat inspectors in the U.S. This in turn prevents horse slaughter plants from being re-opened in the U.S. in 2018. The Amendment was passed in the full committee by a bipartisan vote and will effectively continue a ban on the gruesome horse slaughter industry on U.S. soil.
Protection is however still needed for America's horses from the exportation across federal borders where they continue to face gruesome slaughter every day. The Safeguard American Food Exports (SAFE) Act was announced on Friday, Aug 4, 2017 by US Senators Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), and Susan Collins (R-Maine). Its purpose is to forbid slaughter on American soil and ban any related interstate or foreign commercial activity, such as the export of horse meat or the transport of live horses to slaughterhouses in other countries. The bill must pass the house and senate before it can become a law. Learn more about anti slaughter legislation here
Oct. 15, 2017: The National Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board met Oct. 18-19 in Grand Junction, Colorado — this was the board’s first meeting since recommending that the BLM be allowed to shoot and kill wild horses and burros or sell them for slaughter.
The U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee was scheduled to vote on the bill regarding the funding for the Bureau of Land Management’s Wild Horse & Burro Program on Oct. 19th, but the vote was delayed.
